BLACK EARTH - Irene Della Bomkamp, age 79, of Black Earth, passed away on

BLACK EARTH - Irene Della Bomkamp, age 79, of Black Earth, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on July 8, 1943, in Richland County, Wis., the daughter of Francis McCarthy and Elnore (Johanning) McCarthy.

Irene graduated from Highland High School and Edgewood College, where she studied nursing. She married Joseph Bomkamp on Nov. 21, 1964, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Highland, Wis. Prior to retirement, Irene enjoyed a long career in nursing, spending more than 45 years at Dean Medical Center. A caring and nurturing person, she always worried about others before herself.

In her free time, Irene was an avid reader, a wonderful baker, and had a green thumb in the garden. She was a member of the Mazomanie Community Band, the Red Hatters, and the Black Earth Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, had a great sense of humor, and loved surrounding herself with friends and family. Always so welcoming, she never realized the place she held in so many people's lives. She felt blessed that she got to see her first great-grandchild.

Irene is survived by her husband, Joseph; daughters, Kathryn Ann "Kathy" Bomkamp-Nelson and Therese Marie "Teri" (Bacilio) Suarez del Real; son, James Joseph (Denise) Bomkamp; sisters, Ann Miller and Kathy Summers; grandchildren, Joseph, Abbi, Zac, Jessica, Matthew, Andrew, Mikala and Tyler; and great-grandchild, Ryder. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Pat McCarthy and Dean McCarthy; sisters, Shirley Pipke and Mary Mackey; brothers-in-law, Allen Pipke and Richard Mackey; and sister-in-law, Sharon McCarthy.

A private funeral service for Irene will be held with just the family. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO BLACK EARTH FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1710 Center St., Black Earth, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
